new watercolor and caged faery..

pics of the hensel girls are here.

3-7-04...hints of spring are in the air, and as little girls lying in the grass are accosted by march hares with watches this can only mean time for one thing... a tea party! what the heck, i have a cool teapot and a crazy 2 headed alice quilt, and a fun collection of vintage psychedelia accumulating let's do it!
everyone loves the idea, i have alice props from a kids play and the lovely japanese gothic lolita girls need an excuse to show off their spring wear! this is a great excuse to show off the dresden doll video props including a toybox and a little girl bed/tea table/ouija board. and all the dollies will be there in their finest!
2-9-04...i was a little dubious, but they sounded cool, the dollhaus gallery in New York City wanted work for their Terror Toy show they were doing at CBGB's gallery with barely a week notice. so i made them antler girl and sent it off. with a couple bucks in my pocket i went up sweating i might be wasting time and money. it was funtastic! awesome cool artists and stop motion animators. see my photos here.

and here's s'more pics of my dresden dolls~

1-21-04...see the one way rider video of their song ready here. it's a big file so it takes a minute but is so cool. besides being a great bluegrass song by my good friends and chittlin' the singer is saturated with attitude, it is all flmed two blocks down the river from me. you can see the train that blasts right by my place(it's really not so quiet as in the video) and some good shots of my river the infamous cuyahoga. the video is shot by good friend joel jacobson who is building our media center across the street and is helping with filming and editing our dresden dolls video.

1-6-04...okay! the curtain finally comes off this project! i'm making dolls and puppets for a video of the dresden dolls! this has been exciting the great talent that is coming together for this! well, you've heard me hinting about the project. i fell in love with these guys immediately upon hearing them...i was attracted by their image, turn o century cabaret without feeling gimmicky, and was amazed at the beauty and poetry of them
!ok, so now brian and amanda are dressed, still some detailing to do. brian is a marionette and amanda is a ball joint doll. i'll stick the rest of the pics on my website soon.
the song is a perfect fit.

11-2-03... couldn't resist sneaking up on shiva playing with my "new" victrola!

10-27-03...what an awesome party if i do say so!!! one way rider jammed my faves, frida and johnnycash were in all there glory! isaac coblentz brought a nice combination of wire work, lithographs on handmade paper, etc. our work blended gracefully and with seasonal ambience. good munchies, spirits, friends and family. and a fun, rowdy, sexy audience displaying their halloween fantasies! my kind of night! thanx all! check out my pics!

10-18-03... oh yes, i've confirmed that "one way rider" are playing my opening on October 25th! the coolest talent to sweep north east ohio, they were already my favorite when they told me they were practising extra hard for their gospel show doing alot of a'capella at the first christian church. i didn't want to miss it even tho i was worried about getting hit by lightning walking into a church. their show was mind blowing and way fun! the interplay of the family voices was awesome, as johnny cash says, "there is nothing like blood on blood". and so much personality and playfulness with ma n pa, son bassboy's hilarious banter, youthful chittlin's angelic harmony, and amanda lynn rounding it out. their rowdy guise of the kentucky mafia debuted the outpost bar the day after june carter died, and played again the day after johnny cash died. coincidence? i tend to believe a celestial occurance is going on. anyway, i'm super proud to have 'em play my show, the perfect cap to my favorite religious festival, dias de la meurte!

10-17-03 ...one shoe production of Frankula,...opened tonight and TOTALLY ROCKED! the audience was in stitches the cast and crew was impecable! amazing to watch this youth production written and directed by teens come together with such a complicated structure and it never quite falls in place til opening night. i knew thew jokes were funny but it takes a rythm and timing that was a bit loose until this, the big night and they were great! laced with original live music and dance, thank you guys for having me on board to help out with props, costumes, and the poster, photos and program. lemme know when you are ready to go again!

10-1-03 ...i'm going to make an annual tradition of having an art show every halloween. isaac coblentz is sharing this show, opening on october 25th with wire art, anti-war stuff and a film. i scored a fresh copy of lee lanier's skeletal animated "day off the dead" and kate urich inspired me to finally make marionettes. so we'll have our special guests johnny cash and frida kahlo! the big kent halloween party is happening here downtown and my mask class will have our wild rumpus. of course we will decorate the missing animals of ohio graveyard and have it lit up with candles and flowers.

10-28-03...
WKSU did a great feature on Frankula, and gave me a great plug and link. you can hear the show streaming here.

getting into gear with the art direction on one shoe production of Frankula, the original play. we watched mel brook's young frankenstein on the big screen at the gallery but had to break the hot night with a skinny dip at the quarry so we didn't watch dusk til dawn. we're going to do isis a really cool mask and costume, and a cool mask for the monster, and it would be cool to transform bass boy's banjo. we hope to sell the poster and t-shirts as we don't have ohio arts council funding on this play. any artist want to help out on the sets or costumes please let me know!

i had been to chippewa lake amusement park as a kid way back when so i was excited to hear it is still there with trees growing up through the rollercoster and good psycho clown ghosts in the air. these photos demonstrate a four star recommended way to kick off the summer.

i really enjoyed the 2003 parade in the circle in cleveland and took a bunch of photos! i'm hoping to get a group together to do a float or walk on stilts or something!

our new world children's theater production of shel silverstien's the giving tree went to the stage may 16th, 17, and 18th at the kent state university stageand whatta great show!. me and maryjayne stone did the art direction and the kids are doing much of the scenery, etc. themselves. the little rascal style comedy with a message had the audience rolling in the aisles! i got some great shots that i would like to offer to the cast, their families, friends, etc. so just lemme know.

may 4th anti-war demonstrations in kent were intense this year.the crowd was large (even though the streets were blocked off and no traffic was aloud to the university ) and the cops were there in riot gear with german shepard dogs. sixteen were arrested for no apparent reason. finally met jello biafra who knew me from old political art of mine. i took lots of photos , clik the pic to check em out.

we edited some video from roger hill and the chopper cops which is up on my video page.

i am sharing an environmental art show with kate pilacky, john katko and julia butterfly hill( yes,the california treesitter who stayed 2 years in the big redwood; she does some cool art) for earth day 03. it's called stand for the earth and we opened april 26th at the north water street gallery in kent ohio. we had some great music with tim wallace and amy lovinger doing baroque violin. another great opening party my only regrets being i didn't get more photos. i did however get a few good shots of the missing animals of ohio memorial, now installed next to the gallery all lit with candles. mucho thanx to the many volunteers who helped landscaping the yard and planting the flowers including jen and her crew from the nature conservancy.

i did a big 4'x4' painting of the gulf war hotrod to be displayed at a rockin' peace art rally monday november 18th at the kent state rathskeller. this is a revival of a pen & ink piece i did during the 1rst gulf war. testosterone oil addiction and burning oil wells. view it in the gallery.

t he tenth anniversary show at the water street gallery in kent on halloween was a gas. me and lindy's psycho art decked out the place and was a great setting for the lusty bloody vampires coming in from kent festivities! we called it eyepitaphs for our shared crazy eyes. i finally got the photos on the website!!!

we had a eyepitaph closing party saturday, november 16th but i'm going to keep my stuff there til the 24th. good music, good friends, life is good!

we had a screening at the water street gallery for my brothers movie reflections of evil. the turnout was great, everyone enjoyed the 3 hour movie laughing at the right parts and clapping heartily at the end. it's a kickass movie dealing with frustrations of LA in damon's awesome cinematographic humor . four stars and thumbs up!

've got pics up of the mardis gras wild rumpus and parade we put on with the mask workshop which was 3 weekends in february. what an awesome funtime! everybody looked luscious in their new creations! view my masks in the gallery.

i went up to toledo last fall and visited carmen feliciana's proposed gallery space. the timing was perfect; her mom does the hispanic cultural center right across the street and lo and behold, its the weekend of dia de los muertos; the mexican day of the dead (photos here)! my heart trembled at the beautiful catholic mayan alter displays and just in time for a bigger memory card for my camera. i clicked away at the colors and wonderful dancers. carmen has a big space in back of her gallery she's building a courtyard and wants me to do another ohio animal graveyard. if i can get that grant...

it's official now, i have my new studio in kent, ohio. i lived here a while, back in the 80's so it's a homecoming of sorts. my place is directly above the north water street gallery so it is convenient to share projects with jexo and the gang. i have some work in a group show called silhouettes which opened saturday, january 11th. my donated work is on the flyer for the miller house homeless shelter benefit which will be on display for a week starting saturday february 8th.
i now have a good batch of wildlife art up at the wild mercantile. the party was canceled when some yahoo broke out the window during homecoming testosterone revelry. jeez, joe has enough to worry about starting his new store. stuff looks great on the walls there on state street in athens.

i had a few cool pieces in lamborn's recyclabration benefit which opened wednesday, august 28th through september 6th. everything is made out of recycled and dumpstered stuff!

saturday, september 14th i took the graveyard and wildlife art out to the pawpaw festival by albany. gotta love that local jamming and pawpaw beer!

i got a nice cover and interview in the athens insider spring 2002. sorry i still haven't mailed one to mom. someone show her the article online. and the rave did a piece on the eclipse mining town 2002 halloween events with the missing animals graveyard.
